Women’s tour professional cycle race I am sure you and your fellow club cyclists are aware that the Women’s tour professional cycle race will be whizzing through Oxfordshire on Saturday 11th June having previously been in Gloucestershire for stage 3 on 8th June. Starting in Chipping Norton going through Hook Norton before a hill climb at Butchers hill onto Charlbury, Burford (with a hill climb) Carterton (for a sprint) and onto Wantage before finishing in the heart of the city of Oxford the route details can be seen here and the timings will be added shortly. Chipping Norton will also be hosting further cycling activities aimed at encouraging locals to get into cycling with people able to try electric bikes, disability bikes and a trail to test bike skills. It is hoped a ride will also leave the start after the riders to go onto Oxford to see the professional riders arrive. Both Burford and Charlbury are also holding festivals that weekend and Carterton is currently looking at how to maximise the opportunity so hopefully your riders will get out to see the riders. There will be more promotional videos coming in the run up to the race & further social media so any help in cascading this via your social media channels will be welcome. With less than 30 days until the race, I hope you can help promote the race and encourage local cyclists to cheer the professionals on their way. Uptonogood? – 18th June 2022
Uptonogood? is a mountain bike event for experienced riders and novice families alike. Run by volunteers from Upton village and the local mountain bike fraternity, it is a fundraising event for local projects and causes, offering exhilarating rides, fine food and drink, and a great mix of live music!
Almost entirely off-road, the cycle routes wind their way through the beautiful North Wessex Downs, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty encompassing the Ridgeway and surrounding bridleways.
Uptonogood? now offers five routes devised to cater for all ages and abilities:
- 5 mile Little Wheels ride
- 12 mile Family ride
- 18 mile Teen Spirit ride
- 25 mile Leisure ride
- 35 mile Endurance ride
All the rides start and finish in Upton village where besides the cycling there will be fun and frolics for all the family, including beer tent, BBQ, tea/coffee and cakes, pump track, adventure playground, and raffle with some great prizes. There will also be a selection for live music from local artists throughout the afternoon.
Please note that Uptonogood? is not a race event and times/places will not be published in line with advice from the Police. Clocks on the finish line will allow you to note your own time as with previous years.
If you’ve not been before, get a feel for the event from last years photos. We had a couple of official photographers on the day. Rob Barker took the pictures out on the course and will have pictures of most of you in action, while Brian Jordan took pictures at the Recreation Ground in Upton with everyone relaxing after the rides.
Happy riding!
