Oxonian Cyclocross Race

Standlake proved a major success for the 346 riders who powered around the course.  They ranged in age from 4 years to 73, 23% of the riders were female.  The women’s race was a new fixture in the Wessex CX League this year and proved very popular for the 40 participants.  Reactions on the day, and on social media have been very positive, with many asking when they can come back!  When we staked and taped the course during the previous day it had rained more or less continuously; but by race day the course had drained well, just as the landowner had told us it would.  The conditions led to fast racing in all the categories, from Under 8s to over 50s.  Matthew Wakefield won the Senior Men category and Lindy Brazier-Larkin the Senior Women. Full results can be found here, with links to photographs too.  There were Oxonian riders in all race categories: Under 8s, Under 10s, Under 12s, Youth, Women, Vet 40+, Vet50+ and Senior men.

Chesterton TT pictures

Thanks for the great pictures of the Chesterton TT last week Phil Fowler. It was a wet start but again a great race, with some big puddles and deep potholes to avoid. All the results are on the TT race page.

2018 Presentation Dinner

Great night at the Presentation dinner we had over forty members and friends attend this event. Everyone appeared to enjoy the break with tradition from the usual formal sit down dinner. An excellent buffet catered by Paul Allday was enjoyed by all, with the trophies being presented by triple national 25 mile champion Eddie Atkins. Winner of both the Open 10 and 25 mile events, as well as coming second to Dan Bigham in the national 25, Tim Cartwright was guest of honour. Malcolm Rose and Matt Robson collected the majority of the club silverware, with Matt reviving the challenges of long distance TTs taking the club BAR honours.

Harcourt Hill Cyclocross Race 5th Nov 2017

The race was held at the sports complex run by the Brookes University on the outskirts of Oxford. The course was mainly grass land as it weaved between the sports pitches but there was a large ditch to cross before riders entered a small wooded section, before returning to the grass on the exit. With little resent rain and a fast drying parcour the race was very fast, akin to a grass crit. Today we were the local club running the race.

90th Anniversary Dinner

A week on and the dust has settled. But what an evening! We were amused and amazed by Steve Rowe performing his magic at the various tables as we dined. Simon Brotherton gave the 80 Oxonians and friends a remarkable behind the scenes look at broadcasting from the Rio Olympics and the African Cup, before a brief history of the club and proposing a toast to the club.

Brill Hill on Sunday 19 March 2017

Wow 34 riders for the first of this seasons TTs on Brill. Extremely tough conditions for the most experienced of riders let alone 2 new lady members Tracy Makin and Claire who rode their first TT today. Hope to see more of you on a Wednesday evening. Another young rider Jak showed enormous potential today.

The winner who I personally had my money on was Greg Fitzek with a time of 41.23.

Thank you Peter Oliver and Chris Edginton for getting up early to do the signs and the fab Marshall and of course Richard Reddy for helping out.

Hanborough Hilly 23 on Sunday 26 March 2017

24 riders entered this mornings Hanborough Hilly TT. 2 punctures and 1 mechanical which left 1 junior, 1 Zappi ladie and a mix of 1st and 2nd claim of just Oxonian and Fairly United. The event was won by Dexter Gardias in an impressive 1 hour and 6 seconds followed by last weeks winner Greg Fitzek 1.01.06 and Anthony Turner took 3rd in 1.01.20 so very close.

Looking forward to this years first Wednesday evening TT on the 29th. Please turn up early to sign on as I’m racing and need to warm up.
