Oxonian Social Events

The annual Christmas supper was the best attended in recent years, with over thirty members and guests getting together on 12thDecember at Long Hanborough VH, for a very enjoyable evening with excellent catering from Paul Allday. It was good to see some new faces on the evening.

Continuing the request in the recent survey for more social events please don’t forget this Saturday 22nd December with a social ride starting at Eynsham at 9.30am of about 35 miles finishing back at Eynsham for lunch at the Swan Inn. Please make your bookings via Harriet. You can of course just come along for lunch!

We will be putting together a calendar of social events for the New Year, the first of which will be the Annual Prize presentation on Saturday 2ndMarch at Freeland Village Hall. Further details and how to book will follow in early January. On that subject, please submit your claims for 2018 trophies to myself or any committee member and return any trophies currently held for engraving by 26thJanuary.

Wishing all Oxonian members and their families a very Happy Christmas!

Cyclocross and Coaching

Following the success of our event at Standlake which was Round 4 of the Wessex Cyclo Cross League, we have held a few informal sessions at the venue, with the kind agreement of the landowner James French.  We are now planning to run coached sessions for children there during the pre season period January to March, probably on Saturday afternoons – more details to follow, but if you would like to come please let me know and I will email you directly as soon as we have more definite information.  Please contact David Jones.

The club would like support anyone who would like to learn more about coaching the next generation of cycling enthusiasts.  It’s fun, and very rewarding to see young people pick up skills so quickly.  And you’ll be encouraging them to pick up cycling skills for their lifespan, not just for Christmas!!  If you’re curious about what might be involved please contact David Jones.

We are also exploring whether we could run a series of half day CX races after Easter at Standlake, principally focussed on young riders, but with an adult race to finish the half day. If you would like to help organise these be in touch with the Oxonian ‘Cross Team’ please contact David Jones.

We are also planning a monthly off road weekend club run – if winter mud appeals contact Steve.
