Oxfordshire TT League 2022

It’s time to start thinking about getting ready for the TT season. Last year proved to be very popular and we had some great times. We hope this year’s events prove to be very successful.

Therefore, we are calling all Time Triallists, Timekeepers and Marshalls to start volunteering as soon possible. Link.

Please note, Members and non-members are welcome to ride at any of our club time trial events but due to Covid restrictions, pre-entry is required. For open time trials please enter using the links below.  Events listed as TT league events will score points in our time trial league.

This year the rule has changed, there is a requirement for you to ensure you have a front and rear light, in good working order, fitted to your bike at ALL evening time trials. NO LIGHT, NO RIDE.

We look forward to seeing you at the events this year.

Pete Whitfield has produced his Cycling Books online

wychwoodeditions.wordpress.com

Twenty years ago, Peter Whitfield set up Wychwood Editions to publish the books he was writing on the history of cycle-sport. This range of books is now being made available and sold in digital form via this website. The original books are now out of print, but you will be able to buy them in a simple PDF format readable on any computer, at less than half the cost of the printed versions. A few cycling journals will also be available on the site. All aspect of cycling are covered, but the emphasis is on the story of cycle sport in Britain throughout the 20th Century. Over time the site will build into a comprehensive library of cycling history. All the books are richly illustrated with archive photographs going back to the 1920s. Titles include:

  • Time, Speed and Truth: a history of time-trialling
  • 12 Champions: the lives of a dozen great British riders
  • The Condor Years: a panorama of British cycle sport, 1945 – 2000
  • Bikes, Camera, Action: 50 years of cycling photography with Ron Good
  • The Bidlaker: a journal of cycling history, 2015 & 2016,complete set, fully illustrated

Also a new book is due for publication in April covering the entire history of the Tour of Britain/Milk Race year by year from 1951 to 1993. This will be available both in printed and in digital form.

Yoga for cyclists

Becci Curtis (Cowley Condor and serial racer on our Charlbury Hilly TT events) is running a series of online yoga classes that she is running.

This series is online, something she kicked off during the first lock-down and she has evolved them very successfully.

The course is suitable for you if:

  • cycling is one of your main physical activities (i.e. it takes up most of your ‘exercise’ time).
  • you want to improve balance, strength, and mobility at-home (outside of a gym environment).
  • you want to prioritise rest, promote recovery, and avoid overtraining: you can record these sessions on Strava, but they will be free from the tyranny of chasing a faster average speed.
  • you can’t touch your toes or haven’t tried for a while.

For more information about the courses here is a link

She is also offered a discount code for Oxonian members.

Local Charity needs riders for London Revolution

This looks like a great event and a good charity to help get behind.

They would love to find a team of people to ride the 150 Mile Challenge Cycle.

If you are up for a challenge – any challenge – get in touch!

Mountain Biking 2022

We are looking to start Sunday Mountain Bike Riders. These will be rides focused on routes around West Oxfordshire and distance will vary between 10 and 15 miles.

If this is something you would like to get involved with you can contact Steve Legge or David Jones on Facebook.

We propose to start the rides in March as soon as we are out of winter.
