Oxonian Cyclocross 2017 at Harcourt Hill

Oxonian CC is pleased to promote Round 7 of the league, once again at Brookes University Sport ground at Botley.  We have worked closely with Brookes University Sport, Catering and Ground staff in preparation for this event and are grateful to them for their consistent and positive support throughout.

Our thanks also to Beeline Bikes and Kids Racing, who are both supporting this year’s event.

Kids Racing will be attending with their Pop Up Shop, with Winter Gloves, Bib Tights, Race Capes, Winter Jackets, CX Shoes and Socks, Bobble Hats on board all for kids (and full zip warm up tights for all the big kids!).  If you want anything specifically bought along just let us know.

Online entry is recommended to ensure a ride and to make your sign on a much swifter process.  It’s also up to £4 cheaper.  There are field size limits in place for all categories. So we recommend on-line entry to ensure that you get a ride.  Last year Vet categories were oversubscribed and we had to close entries before race day, unfortunately.  Once a category fills, on-line entry via British Cycling will indicate this, and we will publicise the fact on websites and FB.  We will not accept entries on the day for that group of riders.

Online entry is available via the British Cycling website.

Please note that Riders over 16 years, who are not British Cycling members, must pay an additional £3 day charge (no added fee for Novice 16+).

Race HQ is in the Sport Centre [see attached campus map].  0845 HQ and Sign on open for U10s and U12s only.  All other categories from 1015hrs.  We ask you to observe these times so that we can manage children’s’ sign on as rapidly as possible.

Registration will close 15 mins before race start.

The course is set up around the University playing fields and into adjacent woodland, and is mainly flat. There are two sets of hurdles [just one set for child riders].  There is a large double pit and a bike wash area, with water available.

A marshal wearing a Hi-Viz vest will follow the last rider after all races from Youth onwards, to indicate when the course is re-opened for practice.  Please observe or risk DQ.

Results and prizes

The first 3 riders in each gender and category will have a podium presentation directly following each race, located close to the finish.  All other lesser prizes to follow once full results are confirmed and will be announced on Oxonian CC website and Facebook pages.

Changing rooms and showers in the sports centre.  Toilets.

The University refectory will be open for the event, [see B on attached campus map, follow signs from HQ – 2 mins walk], serving hot and cold drinks and food, including vegetarian option at very reasonable prices.  Starbucks will be open from 09.00 until 16.00 selling sandwiches, paninis, pasta bake, soup, frites [well OK then, chips], cakes and drinks.  Also, bacon, sausage or fried egg rolls throughout the day.  All food can be taken away and disposable containers and cups will be provided.

There is also a vending machine for soft drinks in the Reception area.

The event is held at the Botley campus (map below).

Postcode OX2 9AT.

If arriving from the North or West, at the A34/A420 interchange, follow the A420 towards Oxford for 500m.  Then, turn right at traffic lights [opposite McDonalds] and follow road under A34 and turn immediately left at the lights into Westminster Way.  Follow this road (it is parallel to the A34) until you turn right into Harcourt Hill road.  Go up the hill, passing the older college buildings following signs to the Sports Centre.  See map below.

If travelling from South of Oxford, keep on A34 northbound past the first exit for Oxford. Then after approx. 1k, and 100m after the start of 50mph speed limit at North Hinksey (Botley), take slip road on left signposted “Harcourt Hill Campus”.  Immediately after exiting A34 take further left on to Harcourt Hill.  Then, as above to the Sports Centre.

There is sufficient parking for the event, but it will be tight.  So, please no gazebos, or awnings in the car park [a separate designated area is available], and park up closely.  Follow the signs and marshals’ directions for parking at the Sports Centre, with overflow at the campus a short walk/cycle away.  Parking is free at the Sports Centre car park but will require pay and display at the overflow.

If local please use public transport or cycle to the event – we can look after backpacks at Registration.

Oxonian CC or Brookes University do not take responsibility for lost or damaged property.  We recommend that you keep unattended articles locked up.
